Safeguarding children

Our setting has a duty under the law to help safeguard children against suspected or actual ‘significant harm’.

Our employment practices ensure children against the likelihood of abuse in our settings and we have a procedure for managing complaints or allegations against a member of staff or the setting. Our way of working with children and their parents ensures we are aware of any problems that may emerge and can offer support, including referral to appropriate agencies when necessary, to help families in difficulty.

Special Educational needs and/or disabilities

As part of the setting's policy to make sure that our provision meets the needs of each individual child, we take account of any special or additional needs that a child may have. We have a setting SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), who keeps up to date with training provided by Derbyshire Local Authority.

The setting SENCO will work with the child, parents and keyperson to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met.

With the permission of parents/carers we will liaise with other professionals when required, this could include Health visitors, Speech and language therapists, Early Years inclusion officers, Vision support therapists and Hearing support therapists among others.

We work to the requirements of the Special Educational Needs and Disability

Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (2015).
